Avocado Relish

This is my go to topping for burgers and grilled chicken. I prefer to grill my jalapeños, it gives them a much more smoky and mellow flavor. If you want to skip that step that’s fine, just cut them in half and remove the seeds first, unless you like it spicy!


  • 2 ripe Hass avocados, halved, pitted and coarsely chopped
  • 2 green onions (both white and green parts), thinly sliced
  • 1 jalapeno
  • 4 tbsp cup fresh cilantro
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tbsp chili powder


Step 1

Grill the jalapeños until they get a nice char on them. Remove them from the heat and let them cool a bit. Once they are cooled down, cut them vertically and remove the seeds. I use a small spoon to scrap them out

Step 2

Remove pit and dice up the avocados coursly. Make sure to save the pit for later

Step 3

Add the other ingredients and gently stir together. Don't mush it too much. The chunks are what give it some texture.

Step 4

You can make this a bit in advance, but make sure to put the pit in it if you are planning on making the recipe too far before eating. It helps keep the avocado from browning and makes it look much more pleasant:)
